Stop. Look. Listen.

I want to tell you about a couple of people to whom we should pay close attention.

What will you be doing on 08/08/08? I plan to be watching the Olympic opening ceremonies and for the following weeks…the games. One person, and one person alone, has sparked my interest in the summer games.

Dara Torres is her name and swimming is her game!

In case you’ve been under a rock, or just not paying close attention, this 41 year old wife and mother has just claimed her spot on the U.S. Olympic Swim Team for the 5th time!! Yes, 41 years old!! Nevermind the new record she just broke, nevermind the fact she’s the oldest person on the team, nevermind that half the team could be her sons or daughters, nevermind that even before making it to the games in August she’s already made history…shyt, I can’t remember the point I was trying to make! LOL (You can read more about Dara HERE and HERE)

What I love about Dara is that she has dayum near, single-handedly eliminated any excuse you could ever conjure or cajole about not being fit in your “mid-life”! Blown them completely out of the water…pun most definitely intended! Barring the fact she was, by far, a superior athlete in her teens and 20’s, and has the income to employ a trainer and (2) full-time “stretchers”, she serves as a good example of what women over 40 can achieve, physically….if you would just get off your butt, toss the excuses and commit yourself to your temple…your body.

Granted, we all can not and will not make any Olympic team at 20, let alone 40, but we can strive to be more physcially fit and STOP marginalizing women when they reach a “certain age”. (Watch the video of Torres at the end of this post)

Dara, simply put….GIRL YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!

T. Boone Pickens has a proven track record in the oil industry and knows what he’s talking about. The billionaire oilman is building a massive “wind farm” in Pampa, Texas in a concerted effort to decrease our country’s dependence on foreign oil. Mr. Pickens believes that oil prices will not come down and, in fact, suspects they will go much higher.

Instead, said Pickens, the price of oil, now hovering above $140 a barrel, will hit $200 a barrel.

This is not good news for those of us struggling with the high gas prices now….this shyt will not get better! IT WILL NOT GET BETTER!!!

I encourage you to visit his website, www.PickensPlan.com, to read his plan. Or you can read excerpts from an interview on Good Morning America, HERE.

Pickens does have skeptics about his plan to which he says:

“A fool with a plan is better than a genius with no plan,” he told “GMA.” “And we look like fools without a plan, that’s the way that we’ve been operating for 40 years.”

Priceless!!

  1. She looks fantastic and is an inspiration. I wish her nothing but the best for the Olympics. And T. Boone is an interesting smart person. Hope he can help. With the right person in the White House anything will be possible.

  2. hmmm, she looks built.
As for the texas oil tycoon, what he is saying has been said for years, it is just now that gas is above $4/gal and rising we are starting to listen. With other countries like China building themselves up, the demand for oil can only go up not down, no matter what the U.S. or any of the other so-call developed nations do.

  3. i saw a commercial for the oil baron pickens and his vision is something that should be entertained because the economy is falling from under us because of the high gas prices.

he could be on to something incredible if the powers-that-be do not get greedy!

  4. She is definately an inspiration. I dont exercise regularly, but I do try to eat healthy & stay in shape. Now if I could just find some kinda way to counteract that damn munchie side effect…I’d be cool. LOL

And I sure in the hell hope ole oil boy got a plan…cause this mess is ri-dic-u-lous! I did just hear on the news yesterday that crude is down $6 a barrel and steady going down which should reflect at the pump. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

  5. Wow she is FIT! It’s really inspiring to see a woman her age with kids still working it out like there’s no tomorrow. Just fab 🙂 And speaking of fab, so is your blog doll! Since you def know what’s up on the latest, I wanted to ask if you’ve heard about If Looks Could Kill? I work for Toyota, who released an interactive web series that follows an aspiring fashion designer, Bianca (Femi Emiola, Wicked Wicked Games), into a world of espionage.

And with each webisode, viewers are given a chance at winning prizes, like digital cameras, laptops, and all that fab stuff each week. This week’s winner will get a trip to NYC + major shopping spree, and 150 people will win a Bluefly or MAC gift card. Next week: the grand prize is a fully loaded ’09 Toyota Camry XLE! Fingers crossed, girl! 😉

Hope I haven’t overstepped my bounds by contacting you directly. I’d love to get your take on ILCK since it’s clear bloggers like yourself are in-the-know about what’s hot and current, so I figured this would be something to catch your interest. If you’re into it, check out: http://www.iflookscouldkill.com

Looking forward to hearing from you honey!

  6. I will say this, I am 54 and I work out. If you are planning to be healthy and active when you hit my age, get up and do some work now. When women begin to go into the menopause phase of life, you will find it will be a lot easier to handle all the physical changes that occur.

I am pro-exercise because it provides mind, body and soul benefits. I walk five miles at least three times during the week. It clears my head, helps to burn off some calories and helps to bring balance to my inner-self. It also helps to re-energize your body.
