Chocl8t Ramblings

For nearly a year, this story has angered me.

cylenthia-clark2.jpgCylenthia Clark, a former assistant director for Fulton (Georgia) Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), was accused (by Fayette County DFCS) and arrested on child abuse charges for allegedly “beating” (media sources’ word, not mine) her 8 year old daughter with a belt. Ms Clark apparently took a belt to her daughter’s butt for fighting with a student in school and a teacher. Read the story HERE.

There were reports that Ms Clark received preferential treatment because she was a DFCS employee and case workers stated they felt pressured to protect their colleague (full story here). Now the NAACP has stepped up to defend Ms Clark stating she, and other minority families in Fayette county, are being unfairly persecuted.

Clark is still awaiting trial in Fayette County, where the alleged crime occurred. But Thursday morning, Georgia and Fayette County NAACP officials called for a state investigation into not only Clark’s case, but the entire Fayette County DFCS office. They claim she and other minority families are being persecuted.

I believe in corporal punishment. “Spare the rod, spoil the child” is my philosophy. I believe children should have a healthy fear, or reverence shall we say, for their parents. How one chooses to instill that fear –slash– reverence varies from parent to parent but my mother did it with a B.E.L.T.

It turned out to be a good night! Mom is out of the hospital healthy and happy to be home. Whenever my mom is sick, it reminds me that my superhero is, in fact, human. Scary thought cause see mama can leap tall buildings with a single bound, deflect bullets with her bangle bracelets, make you tell the truth and behave with just a “look”, work a full-time job, cook the best dayum dressing and yams, and at the same time, let you know she thinks you’re the best thing since sliced bread!

Now that the universe is back in order, I feel like a weight has been lifted…I can do my happy dance in the shower!!! 😉

motherembrace.jpgI have been out of pocket for a few days, running back and forth to the hospital to check on my mom. Her asthma had us at the hospital emergency room on Thursday night and after 3 ineffective breathing treatments, the doctor decided to admit her.

She is doing much better now…no wheezing but still experiencing fits of coughing if she laughs or over exerts herself so she is still hospitalized. Although she wants to be “well” when she leaves she was none to pleased with spending her 67th birthday (Sunday) holed up in a hospital bed nor with the possibility of missing the opportunity to vote in the Super Tuesday Primaries. We might have to bust her out of there sometime tomorrow….for real! 🙂

I will not be in a ‘right’ state of mind to post regularly until mom is out. If she ain’t ‘right’, neither am I. I hope to be back to my normal rantings by Thursday.

Peace!

Well, that didn’t last too long, thankfully.  🙂

This is a looong one, so bare with me…ya girl is working some things out.

I was driving home last night trying to figure out the catalyst of my short-lived funk and came to the realization it wasn’t one specific thing but a combination of several that hit me in rapid succession.

Snow days for a single, unattached, sex deprived woman is NOT A GOOD THING! Last week there were 2 snow days in Atlanta and if you know anything about the south, you know that one snow day is enough to shut a city down. The last snow day was Saturday and I was confined to the house all day with nothing to snuggle but a dayum body pillow. WTH!
